The ‘FX Star’ app allowed users to create their own music videos, lip-syncing along to their favourite tracks, and adding a splash of glamour or comedy to their performances with fun 3D filters.
Every week the best user videos were selected to air on TV during The X Factor ad breaks.
The app's filter-based idea was technically ambitious, and relied on seamlessly integrating real-time face-tracking, 3D rendering and video recording.
It directly produced a 29% uplift in positive opinion amongst viewers, helping to change the conversation about TalkTalk.
The app was used more than 2 million times, allowing X Factor viewers to create over 1.6 million videos.
